Definition
This
refers to the lightness or darkness of something. This could be a shade or how
dark or light a colour
appears.
Tones
are created by the way light falls on a 3D object. The parts of the object on
which the light is strongest are called highlights and
the darker areas are called shadows.
There will a range of tones in between the highlights and shadows.
Without
tone Form does
not exist, tone is therefore an important aspect in the visualisation of
3D objects.

Research
Edward Weston takes photos in black and white mostly of people or objects. Weston's work has many differnet tones from the Ansel Adams zone system. His work shows the different tones in the photos well, which can shows you how the object feels.

This work has shown me that when taken photos for tone it docent just have to be objects or landscapes it can't also be people which I had thought of before.
Image bank

I wish to take my own photos similar to the ones above. My images will also be in black and white.
(AO:1. You must ensure that several of the visual ideas/inspirations within the image bank are pursued. )

Images that require improvement
The flower is too blurry. To improve it I would retake the picture but their is no need as I have already done so.
The next image is a very blurry picture of a chess board. To insure I don't get an image thats this blurry again I will use a tripod lucky I did get an god non-blurry image of the chess board.
The last image is when the flash didn't work when using a snot light.
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I wanted to catch the emotion in the face through tone. As well as seeing tone in objects.
The frist image is of an screwed up pice of paper. I like the differnet tones in the origanl bit of paper compared to the tones in the shadow.
The chess set is full of different tones making it look bold and stylish. It also has negative space in the bottom and the top.
The second to last image uses a snoot light. The lighting makes Eleanor look sad and mysterious as you can't see all of her face, I achieved this using negative space to change the mood of the image instead of Eleanor just looking sad without the snoot light. This image was inspired by Edward Weston.
The last picture of me is bright and cheerful. You can see all the colours in my hair. A soft box light in this image. The down side to this image is that you can see the light reflecting of my glass. The image dose have an light red/orange mark above my head which I can remove with the stamping tool.

The portraits with a white background uses 2 soft boxes on a Nikon with settings of F8, shutter speed:1/125 and ISO: 200. The over portraits on a black background use a snot light. The camera settings as follow F8, shutter speed 1/125 and ISO: 400. A light box and Fujifilm were used for the photos of objects. The objects settings F: 3.6, shutter speed:1/34 and IOS: 100.
To improve my images I decided to import some of them into photoshop and use this to create black and white images with more contrast. I also used the stamping tool to remove the red mark behind me. How this was done is shown below in a sample image.

The screen grabs selected show how Photoshop was used to create a high contrast black and white image. To do use this, I used the Curves tool and the Black and White tool adjusting the colour sliders to get the desired hard contrast effect.
This shows how I turned it black and white. After that I used the stamping tool.

The ansel adams zone system showed me that black ad white has a lot of different tones, which I hadn't throughout of before. Edward Weston's work has shown me that I can have pictures of both people and objects. Before looking at his work I was just going to take photos of objects.
I believe that I have produced a decent series of images inspired by my research of tone and the images of Edward Weston. The final images have been refined by converting them into black and white images as well as removing an unwanted mark.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
I believe I have created a strong series of images inspired by Edward Weston The final images were adjusted by converting them into black and white and one used the stamping tool.
